The Tug of War Ireland competition will take place at
Block 3, Row 26, just inside Gate 11,
in the Sport & Leisure Area.
WHEN & WHERE
Tug of War Ireland will be at the 2026 National Ploughing Championships
in Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly, with a special tug of war competition taking place
on Wednesday the 16th of September.
Teams are invited to take part, with competition classes suitable for both established
pullers and those looking to get a team together and have a go.
Weigh-in: 12.00pm
Pulling starts: 1.00pm
The competition forms part of the wider National Ploughing Championships, which run
from the 15th to the 17th of September 2026.
COMPETITION CLASSES
U23 – Six-a-Side
Open to men and women up to and including 23 years of age on the 1st of January.
520kg – Six-a-Side
A six-a-side weight class for teams competing at 520kg.
Catchweight – Eight-a-Side
Eight pullers per team with no maximum team weight.
REGISTRATION & WEIGH-IN
Teams wishing to compete should register in advance with Padraig Coyne.

When teams are registering, concessions for competing pullers will also be arranged
through Padraig Coyne.
Competitors should attend the Tug of War Ireland competition area at
Block 3, Row 26, just inside Gate 11 for weigh-in at
12.00pm, ahead of pulling starting at 1.00pm.
ABOUT THE NATIONAL PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 95th National Ploughing Championships take place from the
15th to the 17th of September 2026 at Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly.
One of Ireland’s largest outdoor events, the Championships bring together agriculture,
rural life, machinery, food, enterprise, entertainment and sport over three days.
Tug of War Ireland will be part of the Sport & Leisure Area,
giving visitors an opportunity to see the sport in action and find out more about
getting involved.
COME AND HAVE A GO
Whether you’re already involved in tug of war or simply think you’ve got what it takes,
this is a great opportunity to gather a team and take on the challenge.
There will be trophies and medals for winning teams and individuals
in each class, along with a full day of competition and atmosphere at one of Ireland’s
biggest annual events.
